There are few issues with using ftp. It is not hard to setup so if like a lot of people you don't have an ext3 formatted device to use with NFS then ftp is a good, reliable but rather slow fall back option.

FileZilla works well with Windows and WINE while OSX users seem no encouragement to use Cyberduck.
